To get the guide lines, go to View>New Guide and choose vertical or horizontal and drag into place. Have the rulers on to help estimate your separations. To place with the placement of each piece, make a blank new layer for each piece you will have. Use the selection rectangle on the background layer to make a selection for each piece, getting close to the guide lines. Place each piece on a different blank layer. Go back to the background layer to select each piece.
