When the top is down there is another zipper over it which openes into a drawstring bag, which can hold a lot - I only used it for filters, lens caps, hoods, etc. I was able to zip it closed. Was nice to keep these things separate because they could have gotten lost in the bag. There is an elasticized mesh pocket in the front into which you can put snacks, water bottle, small tripod, etc.
