These photos are of the Nikhil Korula Band performing in Isla Vista, California on 5-20-06. This was a benefit concert for the Isla Vista Surfrider Foundation. The NK Band's was one of several terrific performances on this beautifully warm, sunny, and fun day in the park. Their acoustic set here had this college community's audience dancing and filled with obvious joy! I first saw the NK Band several months ago, in another acoustic show, on the same bill as one of my favorite performers, Boulder Colorado's Nina Storey. I was HOOKED instantly by this unique, amazingly talented, and very special band. I bought their CD "The Way Things Work", had the privalege to meet frontman Nikhil Korula (a genuinely nice and personable guy), and have been listening to the CD almost daily. The Isla Vista concert was my 4th time seeing them, and my family and I look forward to doing so many more times in the future. Their music is an ABSOLUTELY JOYOUS blend of Rock, R&B, African, Caribbean, Latin, and Reggae influences, featuring irresistable rhythms, awesome musicianship, and spirit lifting lyrics. Actually a 6 piece band, the acoustic set members seen here are Nikhil Korula: band leader and gifted singer/songwriter on acoustic guitar and lead vocals, Anthony King: lead guitarist extraordinaire and background vocals, and the brilliantly talented Dan Boissy on saxaphones. Talking recently with Nikhil, during a break between sets, I told him that their music touches our hearts and lifts our spirits.
