Virginia-Richmond & Petersburg

We left Kings Mountain around 9am and headed towards the CG at Pocahontas SP, Virginia. This was to be our last stop before arriving in PA.We arrived here on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The CG is very beautiful, sites are spread out well and lots of vegetation between the sites, and it was not crowded. Pocahontas SP was chosen because of its proximity to both Richmond and Petersburg Civil War National Battlefields. My interest in these two cities is twofold. The first is and interest in the Civil War and its causalities. About 620,000 (both sides) lost their lives in the American Civil War. The second interest is with the National Park System’s Passport Stamps. We have been collecting the stamps since 1987. I use the idea of getting my book stamped as a reason to visit elements of the National Park System. Richmond has 6 different stamps and Petersburg has 6, we were able to get 4 and 4.
On Thursday we leave Virginia and finish the eastbound portion of the trip by getting to Freeland, PA, Joy's mom's place.

The two following galleries, Virginia and Tennessee are about the return trip to Tucson, AZ.
