Rolfe Hoyer CG, near Greer

The campground is about three miles south of route 260 and about 1-2 miles north of Greer. It has no site facilities, but does have fresh water for filling our potable water tank and a dump station. It is not a heavy usage CG, so we did not make reservations. We arrived at about 4 pm, there was no one at the gate, so we drove the two loops designated for “walk-ins”. We picked out a nice level site long enough for our camper and truck. All sites and roadways are gravel and well maintained. During our stay it rained for a short time almost every day. However, during our six night stay, we cooked all our breakfasts and suppers over the open fire, without being rained on. This CG is for people who want to relax, walk among the pines and listen to the sounds of nature. Greer lakes are nearby for fishing.
The general area is Apache-Sitgraves National Forest on the east and southeast; Fort Apache Reservation on the west, and private land to the north east. From this CG we did our campground reconnaissance, looking 10 others, all without hookups except for Apache Trout in the Big Lake complex of campgrounds. Our second choice of CG's was the Rainbow CG at Big Lake.
