New Mexico-Las Cruces

Our first stop on the Pegasus trip to PA was in Las Cruces, NM for an early supper. Our destination was a CG in El Paso. More on El Paso CG in the Texas Gallery.
The name of the restaurant is the Double Eagle, on the Registry of National Historic Sites, and in the Historic Old Mesilla, NM.
After the Mexican-American War in 1848, a beautiful home was built which is the Double Eagle of today. The interior is decorated with French “baccarat” chandeliers. The museum quality paintings express a charm of a bygone era. The restaurant has its own romantic legend of two young lovers killed by his mother, whose ghosts still roam the rooms in the building.
Along the Rio Grande River valley, NM has “the Green Chile Cheeseburger Trail”, the state’s own pig-out dish. One such entry is the cheeseburger at the Double Eagle. A photo (not mine) of the monster is included in this gallery, only $18.00. Joy and I did not try this giant, but we did split a regular (still big) size (and took more than half of the chiles off it). We ate in the atrium, between the Imperial Bar and the Maximillian Room. Note: Peppers and the Double Eagle are the same restaurant.
It is a beautiful place.
