Minnesota-Itasca SP, Fargo North Dakota

Leaving Ashland we crossed Wisconsin, Minnesota to Fargo, ND, with a stop at Itasca SP. The outlet of Lake Itasca is the headwaters, the beginning, of the Mississippi River. The headwaters was discovered in 1832 by Henry Schoolcraft with the help of Anishinabek Indian guide, Ozawindib. Lake Itasca is in the north central part of MN, about 150 miles west of Duluth. From Lake Itasca, the Mississippi River flows north to Bemidji, east to Grand Rapids and south to Minneapolis. Stopping at the headwaters was trip down memory lane for me because 30 years ago, my youngest son and I drove this route when he left the cowboy profession to return to Pennsylvania. After Joy and I stood in the headwaters of the Mississippi River, we continued our trip to Fargo, ND.
