Louisiana-Abbeville

After a brief lift-off by the wind in Texas, we landed safely in Abbeville, the self-proclaimed heart of Acadiana, at the Palmetto Island CG. Abbeville is about 70 miles west of New Orleans and 25 south of Lafayette & I-10. The state park is about 8 miles south of Abbeville, among giant Oak trees and fields covered with water. Later we found out that that crawfish are grown in the fields in the winter and rice the rest of the year.
We chose this area because the crawfish are supposed to be the best. Naturally, the locals agree with that boast. However, in the two main places where we went for a “boil”, The Cajun Claw and Richards, we met people who drove from New Orleans for the crawfish. Our time was spent eating and driving around the area talking to some local folks. For lunch we had etouffee and gumbo, and for supper it was “mudbugs”, the biggest ones we ever saw. And, they were delicious.
We came to Abbeville for one reason and were very satisfied. From here our next stop is Pensacola, FL.
