2011 October UT Kodachrome Basin SP

Kodachrome Basin SP is nearly surrounded by GSENM, just south of Utah route 12 between Cannonville and Henrieville.

There are over 60 monolithic stone spires know as sedimentary pipes. Each one is different from the one you just looked at. Most of the "pipes" are solitary.

The National Geographic Society came up with the name after they visited the area in 1948. The park has a beautiful small campgrpund nestled in the Juniper trees and "pipes". Other than the campground roads the roads in the park are undermaintained. We saw some cars (low clearance) carefully maneuvering the sandy ruts.
