The Esplanade of Cairns and the Skyrail of Kuranda
After the spectacular lightshow of Sydney, we flew to the city of Cairns in the far northern part of Queensland, about 1500 miles (2400 kilometers). The purpose of going to this part of Australia was to indulge in Cairns famous seafood, take the skyway to Kuringa, visit Port Douglas and Cape Tribulation and Daintree National Park.
The Cairns seafood exceeded our expectations with its giant shrimp, Moreton Bay (Mud) Bugs, Scallops and Coral Trout. Our best meal was on a boat (docked) called the Prawn Star (see photo). The esplanade is a wide tree lined area between the street and the boardwalk. When the tide is out, a large expanse of mudflats are exposed. At certain times of the year, Mudskippers can be seen on the exposed mudflats near the boardwalk.
Kuringa is a small town which can be reached by an aerial Skyway. The Skyway is a gondola above the rainforest between Cairns and Kuringa. The town is tourist area but has a small animal exhibit, an aviary and a butterfly exhibit. All of which are walk through.
