The Ancient Bristlecone Pine forest is located just west of the California/Nevada border, approximately 25 miles east of Bishop, CA.
This pine forest contains the earth's oldest living inhabitant, the Methuselah, a Great Basin Bristlecone Pine. In 2011 Methuselah was 4,842 years old.
The climate and the durability of their wood can preserve them long after death, with dead trees as old as 7,000 years persisting next to live ones.
