Message from Dick Mooney
A Nevada County resident since1999, Dick Mooney has only one hobby…….photography. He remembers taking his first photographs in the early 1950s but he didn’t get serious about the craft until the early 1990s. Known chiefly as a wildlife photographer, Dick also enjoys landscape and seascape photography. In addition, he has served as a volunteer photographer for several local organizations, such as the Celtic Society, Gold Country Computer Learning Center, Retired and Senior Volunteer Center, and Sierra Jazz Society.
Dick is active in the Nevada County Camera Club, having served on the Board of Directors as Secretary in 2010-11. He frequently exhibits his work at Club meetings and has won 22 best-of-month awards and three best-of year awards since early 2010. At least one of his photos has received a ribbon at every Nevada County Fair competition he has entered.
Prepared by education for a career in banking and finance, Dick instead pursued a management career, first in aerospace and later in higher education. He retired in 1990 after 14 years at Caltech and 12 years at UCLA.
