Belize Vacation February 10 - 18 2009

This winter get-a-way to Belize was just an informal jaunt by four friends Dave and Shelley Small Steve DeSefano and Kiana Koenen. We Flew into Belize City and rented a car to travel to the Southern Stann Creek and Toledo Districts.

Our main host and guides to the Cockscomb Jaguar Reserve and Village of Red Bank for the Scarlet Macaws were Gregorio and Julian Chun of Tut zil Nah Cottages in Maya Center. http://www.mayacenter.com The Chuns were superior guides having grown up within the borders of the reserve, and accommodations were simple yet very clean and comfortable. The authentic Mayan meals were delicious and served at our convenience. A great way to explore this region.

The snorkeling was based from nearby Hopkins and arranged by Parrot Cove Lodge. http://www.parrotcovelodge.com/

The jewel in the rough was the delightful stay at Hickatee Cottages in Punta Gorda Toledo District Belize. Kate and Ian have a fabulous eco-friendly retreat, I could have spent the month right there: https://www.hickatee.com/hickatee.html The food, atmosphere, gardens and birds were beyond words. Highly recommended
