Itasca State Park: Colors of Minnesota

This state park is located in NW Minnesota. I was born and raised thirty miles north of the park and spent many childhood hours walking the trails and grouse hunting the nearby state forests. It's one of my favorite places and I spend several weeks each fall in Itasca fishing, hiking, and photographing little slices of this 100 square mile park. It's big claim to fame is The "Headwaters" of the Mississippi river, it's a popular spot with visitors and is featured several times in this gallery. Hope you enjoy!

*UPDATE* "Itasca State Park" was released over the 4th of July weekend(2009). The hardcover book is fifty-eight pages and has sixty-three images of the park and it's wildlife. Sales have been good at the park and surrounding area book stores. I'm presently trying to get it in some stores in the Minneapolis area. UPDATE: Fall 2011 Another great year at the Park for book sales and excitment. Fall colors were some of the most vivid in memory. Swans were migrating through and several pairs were on each lake in the park. We had a beautifully warm 12 days in the park this fall. Thanks Itasca :)

UPDATE: Fall 2012 Year 3 of the book and sales continue strong, thanks to all park personnel involved! I got chased this fall by a snowstorm and high winds and had to cut my trip short by a week. Planning on some wintertime sessions at the park.

UPDATE: Fall 2013 My second book on Itasca State Park released on September 28th, "Loons and Lady's Slippers of Itasca State Park" Thanks to all park personnel involved in the promotions and signings, it was a lot of fun and exciting!

Superb collection of images in this awesome Gallery...
I was born and raised in Upper Michigan and have seen the beauty of those Autumn hardwoods...
Since moving out to Montana, after Vietnam, I have never retuned, I do miss the beauty of the Autumn colors though...

Itasca is beautiful!! I so wish they would have left Douglas Lodge and the front porch with the walkway alone!! They had the most beautiful stones, with a stepdown. Now with the cement, something is 'missing'. I want to go back again someday!!! I used to spend every summer there for a MONTH in July! AWESOME!!!!
