I just couldn't get it. I ran out of time. I couldn't focus in the low light. When I tried to increase the light for the focus I lost my composition. I spent more time on this old wooden apple than any photo I have ever done and it flat did not turn out. I think the composition was headed the right way, I couldn't get the color and detail.

It is the first time I have really felt the limitations of the little Olympus D580.

Oh well, ITS APRIL! almost.

Olympus D-580Z

On the other hand, the textures from the leaf and the table cloth came out really well.

I think you're too harsh on yourself too. The composition is very good as is the shadow detail and the lighting on the leaf.

I like it too and the background is a good choice.

It was a great idea for a shot Don and the shadow is superb.

You should probably give up photography...APRIL FOOL'S!!! This ain't bad, even if it's not what you had in mind. Good practice, and you learned a few things, right? So keep on trucking! :-)

I think we've all felt the same frustrations. This is a great idea and that's the important part. It fits the frame very nicely. It's an interesting abstract shape. The other technical details will just have to wait until later.

Its not a bad shot Don! I really like the shadow coming from it
Guest 01-Apr-2005 07:55
Still a good effort though! Did you think of using something to reflect light back onto the apple??

Great textures, I like the composition. Very nice shadow.

I learn more from my frustrations and failures than I ever do from my successes.
Profound eh? :o)LOL Well the shot ain't half bad!

I find tomatoes frustratingly dull when I shoot them...maybe it's the apple itself Don & not the camera....however I still find this a pleasing image.

I like it too. Did you envision it a little darker? I do like the crisp white of the tablecloth.

I think you are too hard on yourself ... this is an excellent result.

Lots of dedication there! The paper towel makes a great background!

I like the lighting in your photo though. The subject is neat too.. an apple with a leaf :D

I guess you're saying that it didn't end up the way you wanted it to - I've definitely had that happen! But it still turned out nice. Good composition.
