Mad Catter!
He's just plotting.
He knows you will get too close.
He knows you will walk by unsuspecting.
It's like he is a vampire.
He lives on blood.
And he wants to take it from you.
He doesn't care from where.
It might be your hand, it might be your calf.
But he will take blood from you.
Don't let the eyes fool you.
When I go over there, I don't touch him.

Life's a beach
What a fantastic day.
Out for a long walk at the ocean.
Buffy wanted to splash around a bit.
And of course, what Buffy wants..
Fun fun day.
I can't wait to do it again.

Rocks
I'm starting to like this lens.
This was the Viltrox 23mm APS-C lens.
It is on my Nikon Z50.
Do I prefer the D3S with the Sigma 35?
Sure I do, but it is heavy as heck.
So I'm working towards replacing it with this.
I still need to get used to it.
But the weight is so much lighter.
It is more fun to carry this one.
But time will tell :)
Oops, someone needs to clean their sensor.

Take me out to the ball game!
There was no crowd.
There were no peanuts.
I just happened to be in Boston.
I just happened to have a camera with me.
I love walks like this.
It doesn't matter if I get a good shot or not.
I just love walking around and taking pictures.
It always feels new and experimental.
And I've learned that it is the part I like.
Sure, some is the end result.
But the most fun is the beginning at the click.

D3 Risotto!
I LOVE MY D3!
This has been my favorite camera for a very long time.
It is inconvenient and heavy to carry.
But I've always loved the output from it.
So when I went to Niagara Falls, it came along.
Unfortunately, it poured, but no big deal (D3!).
And then we did Cave of the Winds.
What a blast, and the D3 worked fine.
It was soaked, but it's weather sealed.
And so was my lens (16-35).
But then 20 minutes later, it messed up.
First one button died, then the focus points.
Ugh, my D3 was dying.
By the time we got back to the hotel, most buttons were dead.
So now it lives in rice for a week.
Is it totally dead?
I'll find out in a week.

Bunny!
I was pulling out of my garage.
I've been waiting for a package,
so I got out of the car to check the door.
And there he was sitting on the lawn.
I thought "No way, but try".
So I walked back to the car for a camera.
I swapped lenses and took a breath.
He was still there... for one click.
Poof, he was off like a shot.
I always laugh at opportunities like that.
So easy to miss them, but I love to try.
27-Jun-2021
Thunderbird!
My first car show in a very long time.
It was fun, but I only had one lens with me.
And it happened to be a longer macro.
So all the pics are partial details of the cars.
It's ok though, because I enjoyed it.
That is a fun part of taking pictures.
Even if you don't have the gear you would have picked...
you can still enjoy taking pictures :)

From Laury
This was a very special bottle of wine.
It may look like many others, but it wasn't.
It was bought for me by Laury.
I had done her a big favor, and she thanked me with this.
It was obviously just a token of her appreciation.
I hid it in a cabinet the day I got it.
I was saving it for a special occasion.
That special occasion happened last week.
It was my first day out after being fully vaccinated.
Buffy and I shared this bottle of wine.
It's sad that Laury is no longer with us.
Buffy and I drank toasts to the people we've lost.
It was a combination of sadness and happiness.
Sad for the loved ones gone, and happy to have known them.
Happy about the ability to start venturing out.
Happy for the hugs.
I'm very glad I had saved this until now.

Coffee Time
This was actually a little over a month ago.
I just never got around to posting it.
It was your average pandemic coffee day.
However, it was Buffy bringing it to me.
And Buffy is NEVER average.

Can anyone explain this?
So this was in the parking lot of a Naval Lodge.
That lodge is right next to the Naval Base.
These guys were in groups of three.
They would shuffle across the parking lot like this.
Multiple groups were doing it.
Three guys on boards with ropes shuffling and walking.
I had NO idea why they did this.
In normal times I would have asked.
There were enough observers that I could have.
However these are not normal times.
I stayed in my car and shot this through the windscreen.
What the heck is this?

Relaxation
What a great day with Buffy.
We were on our way to go leaf peeping.
But as always, we were open to ending up elsewhere.
We planned our destination and our route.
But then we decided to stop and have breakfast.
Through a series of events, our plans changed.
(ok, I forgot the propane stove to cook breakfast).
But as always, we just re-planned things on the fly.
That is SO important in a relationship.
If plans change, is there still fun to be had?
If the answer is yes, you've got a good one.
We hiked, we took photos, we had a great day.
Maybe next week we will make it to the "destination" :)

Bark at the moon - Z50 test shot
So I made my decision that the Z50 is staying.
It isn't a perfect camera.
It is simply a compromise of things.
I found my biggest issue with the D3 was weight.
It was the difference between carrying it and leaving it behind.
I looked seriously at the Z6.
But it came down to weight again.
Better picture quality? Yup, the Z6 wins hands down.
But heavier body, and that leads to heavier lenses.
I'd still be carrying my good glass.
So in the end, the lenses were the obstacle.
Not just the cost, but the size and weight.
The kit lenses in the Z50 can do what I wanted them to do.
And darn, they are light.
Z50, 50-250 kit lens hand held pointed at the moon.
That will be just fine for what I wanted.
26-Sep-2020
Riding at night
I didn't like the car behind him.
However I loved the smear of colors.
Most of them were not that noticeable.
But the ISO was pretty cranked up.
When you walk around at night,
this is sometimes what you get.
It was a really nice night,
and a great walk with Buffy.
18-Sep-2020
Another Z50 test shot
So this is another shot I never would have taken with my D3.
Because my D3 wouldn't be with me at the time of the walk.
The interesting part of this one was the angle.
Yes, I wish I had moved a few feet to the left for a better picture (bah).
But I took this with the flippy screen.
So I was at a normal height looking down at the screen.
That really intrigues me.
There have been shots on the D3 that I didn't take.
Crawling on a sidewalk in the city... pass.
But that is the angle.
So I like the screen on the Z50 a lot.
By the way, 50-250 kit lens.
18-Sep-2020
Rawrrrrrrrrr - Camera Testing!
So I'm testing out the Nikon Z50.
This picture would not exist from my D3.
Because I wouldn't have carried my D3 on this walk.
I always thought eventually I'd get a D6, or even a used D5.
But I've gotten tired of carrying the D3.
Another single digit D body would have the same issue.
I LOVE the pictures from the D3.
Especially with the 1.4 lens I have.
But the Z50 has some potential.
And it is light as a feather.
I can carry 2 lenses and hardly notice them.
I can adapt my F mount glass with an FTZ.
I'm starting to think this thing might stay.
11-Sep-2020
A perfect round
I won this in medal 2019 by having a perfect round.
It is a really nice memory for me.
It was back when the world was "normal".
I could drive through any state I wanted to.
I could stay at any hotel I wanted to.
I could eat at any restaurant that appealed to me.
I'll admit that I just barely won it.
It came down to a battle at the end.
And then, there was only one person left that could beat me.
But he fell just short.
I didn't come close to winning the whole competition.
But for one out of the ten rounds, I was perfect.
12-Sep-2020
Puff the magic dragon dog!
She is always watching you.
She never sleeps, unless she is sleeping.
She never eats, unless she is eating.
She never wakes us up... unless she does.
But she never minds me taking pictures...
Unless she does :)

I voted today
I don't like the direction of my country.
I don't like the insanity.
I don't like the lies.
I don't like fomenting of violence.
I'm tired. I voted.
I've been told maybe my vote won't be counted.
Maybe it just won't get there on time (oops).
Maybe it will be stored in a box out back.
Today was to make sure I could vote.
It was just a primary, but I had to be sure.
I had to be sure I wasn't ripped out of the rolls.
I had to be sure my vote was not suppressed.
I can't even go out and buy a fucking pizza, but I'll vote.
I don't even care if I get sick from it.
Honestly I don't care if it kills me.
But I will get my one vote.
And that vote will be counted.
It is the single thing I can do to change things.
I'll do it again in November.
27-Aug-2020
Fishing for flies
I had the wrong lens with me.
I was walking across a bridge when I saw him.
I yelled down to ask if he minded some pictures.
He said "Have at it".
So I happily snapped a few.
And here is why I like photography.
This was the wrong lens for this (35 from a long distance).
My camera only has 12 megapixels.
And I had to crop like crazy to get this.
The D3S is an awesome camera in the right situation.
But here it was a little limited due to the lens I had with me.
But I'm joyful I was there watching him fish for flies.
I enjoyed the day walking around taking some snaps.
So I just don't care that it is technically flawed.
I don't care that the angle is not the best.
Because I was there that day.
23-Aug-2020
What's Cookin?
We had talked about this more than a decade ago.
What to do when Buffy's youngest turned 18.
This fire contains Buffy's divorce papers.
Not all of them, because we had to feed them in.
When we put to many in, they didn't burn.
There were so many there was a lack of oxygen.
So now what will he do?
This chapter is finally over.
He is alone and has nobody to file more papers against.
I watched as he filed these multiple times a year.
And now they have gone up in smoke and ash.
What a lonely and pathetic life he leads.
14-Aug-2020
This is interesting
This is an important photo.
However it isn't an important picture.
I was driving home when I saw this.
And I wanted to do an experiment.
This is exposure stacking.
It is my absolute first attempt at it.
I didn't use a tripod.
I just set bracketing and hoped for the best.
Then merged it all in Lightroom.
It has nothing to do with the subject.
Just that the subject had varied light intensity.
I'll experiment more with this.
Just learning and having fun.
12-Aug-2020
Walking around the city
Vacation had some very fun parts.
Sure, everything is socially distant.
And that makes "vacation" different.
I turned it into little "photo tours".
Just go to the city, pack a lunch.
Then I just walked around.
It wasn't the best vaca ever...
But it wasn't the worst either.
05-Aug-2020
To the edge
Still on my mandatory vacation.
So I decided on another journey.
I'm really still "testing" this lens out.
I decided I loved it.
Then I decided to return it.
Then I decided to give it another week.
Then I decided to return it.
So now I'm half way through the week.
And I decided to keep it.
What an aggravating lens.
Not this shot, but when at f/1.4.
I never know where the focus will be.
But when it hits, it is wonderful.
Then it backfocuses by a mile.
I've spent hours calibrating it.
I've got a few more days to vacillate.
Chasing the dragon of 1.4.
04-Aug-2020
So much was different
I went to the town I grew up in today.
I'm on a "forced" vacation, so I had nothing to do.
I looked around for a bit, and it was so different.
One of my schools, gone.
Another school, looked a little run down.
The library, had been reconstructed.
I already knew that, but I really wanted to go in.
Unfortunately... pandemic.
So I couldn't go in to look around.
Once this is over, I will though.
Just to see what is still there and what was added.
When I tell Buffy about this, I'll of course say "Lyberry".
I always insist on saying it like that.
It still amuses me.
01-Aug-2020
Walk this way
Buffy and I went on a walk yesterday.
We just drove into the city and took pictures.
We parked somewhere we had never parked at before.
It was all unfamiliar to both of us.
And it was a wonderful day.
Except lunch... which had issues.
They had socially distanced tables.
And I asked to be way out at the end away from everyone.
I was nervous, but there was a table way away from everyone.
Outside (of course, I'm not crazy).
We waited about 10 minutes.
And then the hostess brought another group and sat them next to us...
Seriously? After explaining how nervous I was and it was my first time.
Not an extra table away from us, but right next to us?????
Do you want Covid? Because that is how you get Covid.
Needless to say we stood up and left immediately.
Buffy is still immune, but I'm not, and I don't tangle with it.
She went into a different place to grab us food.
It ended up being a perfect day.
29-Jul-2020
Luck be a lady tonight!
The wandering slot machine is back home.
Owning one is just strange.
They are big and heavy.
But for a little while, they are fun.
But it isn't really gambling.
And after a while, it gets a bit boring.
So now that it is home, I'll play it for a bit.
And then it is on to the next friends house for a while.
26-Jul-2020
Flowers
Flowers are an interesting subject.
I always wonder where to set my aperture.
Deep or shallow, harsh or mellow.
Tight or loose composition.
Offset, rules, no rules?
Or just flowers in a snapshot.
Did the bug even notice me?
26-Jul-2020
Anytown, USA
I went out this morning to take a picture.
I wanted to sum up my town in one photo.
An ambitious task to say the least.
I quickly learned that one pic can't do it.
So I ended up with a bunch of "Anytown" shots.
It has no context and could be anywhere.
I didn't sum up the town.
But I liked the picture.
I took two with the sun poking around.
I took two without the sun in the shot.
And this is the one I went with.
23-Jul-2020
I missed
I missed focus.
I missed the framing.
I was shooting through a dirty glass door.
I had motion blur from shaking the camera.
I had the wrong lens on my camera.
I had my settings wrong.
I have a 12 megapixel camera that doesn't have the resolution.
I had to crop the heck out of those 12 megapixels.
I... don't care.
Because this morning a squirrel stopped on my deck to say Hi.
And that camera was on the kitchen table where I was sitting.
And a few tweaks in Lightroom made it all ok-ish.
I like the picture, and that is what matters.
19-Jul-2020
No Trespassing
You say no.
I say yes.
It all looked too inviting.
So yes, I am a trespasser.
I passed the tres right after this.
I didn't take any pictures of the actual crime.
19-Jul-2020
Flowers Everywhere
I woke up early, and took a walk.
It was partly a photo walk.
But really, the photos were an excuse to walk.
I've noticed that I'm "working" on my pictures.
Not in the sense of ugh, work.
But more the fun sense that I'm trying to improve them.
I'm making more effort to think and be steady holding the camera.
I'm enjoying that.
01-Jul-2020
Lily pads
I was out early this morning.
Just some quick kayaking before work.
I wanted a better camera then my phone.
So I dusted off the D200.
If I dropped it in the water I'd be bummed.
But really you can buy a D200 for $50 now.
So even with the lens I was holding $100 of gear.
But everything went fine.
And it was a nice way to start the day before work.
20-Jun-2020
Buffy Returns
It was a small vigil in a small town.
I can't really call it a protest.
But we were there.
And we will be back again.
These are different times.
We are living through history.
It's being written every day.
To me, there is only one side today.
The most interesting part was the reactions.
There was a lot of horn honking.
There was lots of waving and thumbs up.
There were a LOT of people desperate to not see us.
And there was some anger at us.
I was told to get a job (I have a good job).
I was yelled at to F off (with a capital F).
And there was someone that sat at the light angry.
After some time went by, he gave us the finger.
He sat there with his finger up for 20 seconds.
Then the light turned green.
I don't understand their anger at us.
I can understand the ones that don't want to look.
But what were we saying that angered some people?
Why are you in your car feeling angry about stopping racism?
I'm proud Buffy stands up for what she believes in.
I really hope this is the year that history changes.

The beast is now my muse.
I'd rather have more subjects.
A regal pupper is fine, but not normal.
I'd rather be touring and seeing new sights.
But in this day and age... the beast.
30-May-2020
Pupper in the sun
Well technically the shade.
Pup was just hanging out.
Was she annoyed with all the pictures?
Meh, that isn't a puppy's place.
The cost of food in your bowl is photos :)
13-May-2020
Bee Positive
In my continuing background photos,
I went out to take a picture of a flower.
This guy scared the crap out of me.
But he really wasn't interested in me.
He just continued flower to flower for a bit.
12-May-2020
Bird Background
I use a green screen at work.
I have to be on video conferences all day long.
My favorites are pictures I take myself.
This one was on my deck.
He stopped by to day Hi.
It was only seconds.
I got three poses, one out of focus,
but this one he stood up.
Poof, a second later he was off.
Oh, the third pose, his out of focus butt flying away.
15-Mar-2020
Dear Mr. Squirrel Photographer
I was sitting out on my back deck.
All of a sudden a cardinal swooped in and landed on a close branch.
It was right in the sunlight, and was just perfect.
Very bright red, and he almost posed for me.
I knew there was NO chance I could get inside and get a camera.
But I tried, just in case he would stay.
He flew off as soon as I stood up, but I went in for it anyway.
So back on the deck, a bit chilly, but determined.
And then this guy stopped by on the fence.
I had to shoot through the deck (which is why he isn't all there).
The shutter scared him away, but I had what I wanted.
14-Mar-2020
Espresso yourself
May you live in interesting times.
There is debate where that saying comes from.
Is it a blessing or a curse?
I don't know.
But maybe these times are a bit too interesting.
Maybe you should just sit on your couch and read pinball news...
Oh jeepers, even that is "interesting" with show cancellations.
Maybe sit at your desk and write code?
Oh my, that works.
But now the compilation will take 15 minutes.
Just enough time to post from the morning coffee.
04-Mar-2020
Macro
This is a mediocre attempt at a macro shot.
Really I was just sitting in the kitchen and grabbed it.
It normally sits right on the window sill over the sink.
Maybe if I had put some effort into it it would be better.
But really, I just needed a background for the green screen tomorrow.
03-Mar-2020
Vote!
Get out and vote (if you are voting today).
If you are allowed to vote, you should always do it.
Otherwise you are voting to not vote anymore.
02-Mar-2020
They are laughing at you
Ahh, the other hobby, Pinball.
Yes, I adore pinball.
I think I have since I was 10.
However it was only a bit over a decade ago that I learned...
that you could have them in your HOUSE!!!!
Since then? You may as well call it an addiction.
29-Feb-2020
Obsessed? Worried?
I was driving by, and saw this.
It was a field of little flags and signs.
It was all about getting help with mental health issues.
And that is always a good thing for people to see.
If you're struggling with mental health issues, get help.
There is never a reason to go through it alone.
People are always there to help you through the toughest times.
All you have to do is ask.
27-Feb-2020
Messing with Macro and backgrounds
It's not really a photo thing.
Well, yes, it's a photo, but not for posting here.
I use a green screen for work video conferencing.
I'm on a video conference the entire day with my team.
And a daily background is a fun thing.
Right now I'm on a kick of only using my own photos.
So this is the one I will use tomorrow.
25-Feb-2020
How long is Christmas?
My house is still decorated.
The lights are still up.
Ok, I get it, this is weird.
2 months later, they should be down.
It has just been a busy time for me.
That isn't totally it though.
The truth is, I enjoy them.
I have a smile when I see them.
But this week they all go into boxes.
And I'm already thinking about setting back up.
The day after Halloween? Hmmmm, no. Too early.
Maybe half before Thanksgiving and half after?
Yeah, that will be nice.
23-Feb-2020
A warm winter day at The Crane Estate
I had never been to Crane Beach before.
And I have to say, Buffy and I had a great day there.
I was all whiny when I woke up, and she wanted a road trip.
Our entire plan was a direction, and off we went.
I'm sure I'll post some pictures from the beach at some point.
Overall it was a great day.
Photography notes: This was with the small rig (D90, 18-105).
It was much lighter and easier to carry.
However I kept hitting the wrong buttons because I'm used to the D3 again.
Overall the D3 just feels smoother with more range to me.
So I'll probably switch back soon.
22-Feb-2020
Building 7
I don't know what went on inside Building 7.
I'm not sure I want to know.
State Hospitals were an ugly place.
But was it more humane than now?
How many homeless people would be here?
And yet, what torture would they endure here?
I'm not sure what would be worse.
All I know is, I'm glad I never lived at Building 7.
22-Feb-2020
Casey's!
Casey's Hot Dogs!
I was passing through Natick Massachusetts,
and I knew all about this place.
It has been there forever.
Well, not technically right there, it moved a couple times.
I mean the entire diner was picked up and moved.
So whenever I go through there, I try and stop.
Not for the location, but the dogs.
They make the best damn hot dog anywhere.
And although it was pretty early for lunch...
Well obviously I couldn't resist.
And the result... Yummy!
26-Jan-2020
Boston Parking
Why? Just so I remembered where I parked.
But why now?
Because I didn't take any pictures today.
I just didn't have time for it today.
Called away from work to help someone.
I brought my camera along, but it never came out.
It just sat under the seat ignored.
So I synced my photo and came across this one.
Not much really, just trying to keep the PAD going.
26-Jan-2020
Boston Twisted Metal
I took this a couple of weeks ago in Boston.
It was really the first "adventure shooting" day.
All I did was grab my camera and head into town.
It was really fun because I hadn't done that in many years.
I'm starting to get more comfortable cameras again.
And Buffy is helping me not have massive blasts of light in the background.
But I just don't feel like I have my eye.
I can't see the picture I'm trying to get until after.
It's a lot easier for me to see it on a monitor at home.
But I realize it will just take time to "get it".
16-Feb-2020
Toto Ramen
Part of my day involved this guy, and a yummy lunch.
Buffy and I went to the boat show, and lunch was at Totto.
They make some darn good Ramen there.
15-Feb-2020
Puffin!
The puppy in the backyard.
She wasn't in the best of moods because her mommy wasn't home yet.
Soon little puppy, soon.
Robert
This is the first portrait I did since getting back into photography. Robert is one of my co-workers.
I was hoping this setup would work. I kept pushing around the monitors until I got them how I wanted them to frame the picture.
