Damer house built in the early 18th Century was saved in the 1970s by local voluntary organisations. It is open to the public and is used for exhibitions.
"Joseph Damer of Tipperary was granted the town and lordship of Roscrea in 1722. He married two years later and shortly afterwards built an elegant town house within the curtain walls of the old castle." I suppose it is true to say that he wasn't the most popular man in Roscrea at the time.
