Quin Abbey

Quin Abbey is unusual in that it was built within the walls of a Norman Castle. The castle was built in 1280 and was converted to an abbey between 1350 and 1430.

The castle is attributed to Richard de Clare but there was a church previously on the site. www.isleofalbion.co.uk/quin/

This castle was built by the McNamara clan, orginally Mac Conmara. They were a celtic clan and this castle is located in Clare.
