This tree was Irish nominee for European tree of the 2014 but was a casualty of the storm on 12th February 2014. It was 200 years old and 41 metres tall. It was growing in fairly wet ground and efforts were made to drain the ground around it but the ground would have been waterlogged after very heavy rain.
