Oregon Junco
Fenland Trail, Banff, Alberta
The trail is lined with tall pine trees that make bird photography difficult. The junco was feeding in the shade of a tree just off an alpine meadow. After a patient wait, the junco hopped up on a branch lit by sunlight and posed for this shot.

Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch
Yoho National Park, British Columbia
We stopped at the Field exit of the TransCanada Highway to look for American Dippers along the banks of the Amiskwi River. The constant whistling by a group of Hoary Marmots distracted us and we mistakenly searched the trees nearby. We discovered two similar birds that were difficult to identify due to backlighting. Eventually one of them moved allowing me to take this shot.
