In the early morning a small number of Pakistani Pashtun workers labour beside a giant pit in which bricks are stacked, ready to be fired. Poverty and child labour is pervasive among workers in brick kilns in South Asia. Horses and donkeys also suffer badly. Peshawar alone has approximately 450 brick kilns.
