I originated this little program, i.e. Louis DeWitt - as I write this now (Sept 2023) I am 91 years old and still kicking - still in Westminster CA = still married to that little I am still married to that Western Airlines Stew whom I married in 1954 - no complaints of any kind which makes me pretty lucking in the larger view of things. So, "Hello" to all and I might add "be careful driving and when doing anything else you might try to do.

I am Louis DeWitt, the guy who created the cadet site. That was many years ago. I graduated from aviation cadets in 1954 - ended up in Korea Troop Carrier and then to SAC KC 97 tankers (to put it briefly). I joined Western Airlines in 1960 and retired as a Delta Airline Captain (Delta and Western Merged) . Live in Westminster CA 15811 Clarendon Street to be exact. Age today is 88 and still chugging along. Married a flight attendant in 1954 and still am married (it is 2020 as I write these words).
I have had a "great" life. I would love to have the chance to do it all over again.

I was in Class 55-L Lackland/Malden/Laredo/Del Rio/ Nellis.
Only one available F-86 slot two F-84 slots at Luke.
I was fortunate to get the only F-86 slot at Nellis.
Had a great career. Flew numerous aircraft including F-105 as Test Pilot at Republic Aviation Corp.
Also Career with Pan Am & UAL.
Still remember Civilian Instructor at Malden Reynold S Smith. Demanded excellence and kept you just short of your breaking point.

I am looking for any infomation on class 61-B. According to my father in law, he started in Lackland, then went on to Greenville, Ms., and finally, to Bartow, Fla. I would love to find a picture of the class patch or other pictures of that class. Does anyone have any leads I can track down? I would greatly appreciate the help.

@Altus 5 years then HDQ's etc with Tankers again @ McCoy & Grissom All in all a great 30 years would do it again in a heart beat. Several joint tours with of course SEA in the mix.

CLASS 54-F. WENT TO B-29 COMBAT CREW TNG. APRIL-JUNE '54, THEN TO B-47's AT MCDILL.
1954-1957 B-47's THEN TO WESTOVER AFB. MASS FOR B-52's 1957-1960. OFF ACTIVE DUTY APRIL 1960.
THEN TO RESERVES AT ELLINGTON AFB, TX AND CALIFORNIA WHILE FLYING FOR PANAM UNTIL 1986.

Great Aviation Cadet site. Interesting that Aviation Cadets went on from 1960 through 1966 as a Navigator only Program... with a number of National Guard trainees and the new Academy cadets going in and out. This was all done at James Connally AFB, Waco, (see www.james-connally.org) then moved to Mather AFB, Ca. Now all is 100% gone from Randolph AFB, Tx (see www.usaf-nav-history.com

There are however a few real navs and navbombs in the B-52s and DSOs & OSs in the B-1. In the now NAS Pensacola program the CSO is being trained... some to go like the enlisted fliers of the US Army and the USAF couch-pilots to fly C-UAVs.

In the Air Guard there are plenty of real navs left in the C-130 units which are hard tactical types now trained out of their HQT Unit at Rosecarns, Airfield (near Ft. Leavenworth Ks and/or St. Joseph Mo.

I graduated with Aviation Cadet Class 60-G. By that time the training aircraft was the T-33A. I believe the cadet knowledge that you referred to went something like this:

After 5 days of AC testing, I qualified Pilot except for a 3 day hold over to recheck BP.
The top was 140 sys and mine was 143 when tested during my physical. They really wanted me and were sure it would return to normal when retested. (White coat syndrome) But each time they tested I was more nervous and it still averaged above 140. So I joined the regular AF for 4 years. BP has been around 120 or so ever since.

SCHOFIELD’S DEFINITION OF DISCIPLINE



The discipline which makes the soldiers of a free country reliable in battle is not to be gained by harsh or tyrannical treatment. On the contrary, such treatment is far more likely to destroy than to make an army. It is possible to impart instruction and to give commands in such manner and such a tone of voice to inspire in the soldier no feeling but an intense desire to obey, while the opposite manner and tone of voice cannot fail to excite strong resentment and a desire to disobey. The one mode or the other of dealing with subordinates springs from a corresponding spirit in the breast of the commander. He who feels the respect which is due to others cannot fail to inspire in them regard for himself, while he who feels, and hence manifests, disrespect toward others, especially his inferiors, cannot fail to inspire hatred against himself. That the Troops may have an opportunity of attending public worship, as well as take some rest after the great fatigue they have gone through; The General in future excuses them from fatigue duty on Sundays (except at the Ship Yards, or special occasions) until further orders. [1] The General is sorry to be informed that the foolish, and wicked practice, of profane cursing and swearing (a Vice heretofore little known in an American Army) is growing into fashion; he hopes the officers will, by example, as well as influence, endeavour to check it, and that both they, and the men will reflect, that we can have little hopes of the blessing of Heaven on our Arms, if we insult it by our impiety, and folly; added to this, it is a vice so mean and low, without any temptation, that every man of sense, and character, detests and despises it.

Clarkson and Chase under confinement for Desertion, and reinlistment into the Artillery, from another Corps, to return to Capt: Bauman's Company until Col. Ellmores Regiment, wh. claims them, comes into camp.
