The stonework at the Stanford Quad is sepia toned so that was a strategy to simplify the image down to a play of light. And I suppose sepia is suggestive of age and bygone times.

I like the idea of toning down the brightness in the background to draw the eye more to the big arch in the foreground.

Arcades are tricky in that their converging lines are emphatically "pointing", but there usually isn't anything there that it is pointing at. So I went for the play of light along the arches and the amazing carvings.

Zane, this looks nice, but I'm not completely sold on the sepia, although it's not bad by any means. I would prefer to see the vanishing point not going off on the left side. Of course I'm almost certain this choice was logical due to something over there not wanted within the image. Still, the brightness takes me away with it. Needs a buffer zone, however small. Maybe a gradual fall-off in brightness via vignette?
