Blue and brown color play

Not my image!

Part of a visual conversation: http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/72906043

"To make the point, this version enhances the powerful color play possible between the man’s skin and the rich and wonderful blues.
That color play is then center stage and more emphatically aligned with your stated intent of “found chromatic harmony”
with the blue giving more meaning to the rich skin tones and the rich skin tones giving more expression to the wonderful blues.

The critique of Phil's image is that by cutting off the man's toes it draws the eye to that point (Visual tension is created when something intersects the edge of the frame).
Also the red is too dominant.
Our eyes are drawn first to areas of brightness, contrast and bright color.
So our eye is drawn to the red curb a bit too strongly as that emphasis draws our eye away from the primary subject.

My contention is that these compositional flaws distract from what is otherwise a fine image.

Phil will emphatically argue that composition is rather unimportant and not something that he was ever trained in as a photo journalist.
He obvoiusly doesn't appreciate or tolerate any criticism or input counter to his own point of view very well or he would not have blacklisted me from his site.
Phil has dedicated his site to teaching, but is he being a good student as well?
The best teachers are those that are the best students as the teacher learns the content better than anyone...
but that is based on being open minded and being respectful of other's views.
