View from Vista House

Columbia River Gorge, Oregon

The formal symmetry and the richness of the stained glass created a very satisfying mood that suited the quietness of this majestic monument

Yes, I braced the lens against the locked glass door to get this slow exposure shot and enlisted my Mom to shade the lens so that there wasn't a reflection visible. And as you can see, the place is empty.

There was an interesting forlorn mood to the place in the overcast gray light, but the rich character came though with the stained glass, elegant forms and fine materials that were so much a part of that era.

I was going to ask the same question as Kimberly. We've seen the Vista House from the outside a lot of times. Last winter we heard that it was supposed to be open this year.

Zane, Did you take this through the windows? I saw this in your gallery earlier, but when we went up to visit this weekend it was still closed. I was hoping it was finally reopened...no such luck :)
