We spent Thanksgiving in Sun River Oregon with many family and extended family. These were taken there and on the way back south on Highway 97.  

 

A blustery fall day with a deep blue sky revealed behind the scudding clouds made it hard not to stop the car a few times on the way back...

The clouds and the dusting of snow lent a certain forlorn mood to the big empty spaces that was quite interesting. I could have stopped a dozen more times, but to keep the peace, I kept driving...

 

I really love being out on the road discovering what is there to been seen and captured; every place has a soul, an essence to be experienced. For instance, there were an endless stream of grain elevators located randomly every few miles on the flat landscape of the San Joaquin Valley for hundreds and hundreds of miles. Big canals that reflected the clouds like giant mirrors in the still air, abandoned derelict buildings, ancient industrial structures and the last, rich colors of a spent fall fading into winter. Then the grand remnant volcanic landscape with its own color palette....

But that might be another adventure on another trip....
