Many people, including the mother of this young woman, really like this fairly heavy-handed Gaussian Blur technique, which although it has caused my hair highlights to burn out a bit, seems to add some drama that they like-especially on Archival Matte paper. This was shot with a 1600 WS umbrella camera right, giving the 1 o'clock catchlights. I bounced another flash head off a 4x6 foot LightForm panel w/white fabric from camera left, and lit the hair with a 400 WS grid on a boomstand from behind and left,to add a little shadow from her hair, which helps delineate her face, adding just a bit of dimension I think. With no GB, the highlights in her hair are perfectly rendered, but as I said, my end client, likes this "dramatic" soft-focus look. Background color is is a blue gel fired onto charcoal seamless and raked across the background at an angle.
