I shot this with two umbrellas stacked one a bit higher than the other, and both aimed downward at around 50 degrees or so I guess at my subject. One was a shoot-through umbrella, and the other was a soft-box style, enclosed umbrella. The shoot-thru 40 incher I have had for many years, and it gives some specularity on the skin. The newer, enclosed Lastolite umbrella offers more of a softbox-type of light, which is a LOT less specular and sparkly than the shoot-thru umbrella is. By stacking the umbrellas,I get a big, soft light pool, but also a touch of sparkle, 'cause this is going to run in the sports section as a Black and White most likely. The two 40 inch umbrellas ensure that each eye will have a strong, sparkly catchlight.
