Using the maple trees from the previous shot as my foreground object, I focused the inexpensive 500mm on this single confier, which is by my estimation almost 3/4 mile from my back deck. Considering the absolutely horrid air quality, with high levels of agricultural particular matter as well as pollens and other matter, the lens is doing a pretty good job of showing fine detail at near infinity focusing distance. It also has a reasonably pleasing and good foreground out of focus character.
