May first was sunny and lovely virtually the entire day. At 6:11 PM I snapped this photo of a yellowjacket on a 4 inch support post on the back deck. I was using my Tamron 90 and a 20mm Kenko extension tube. I got fairly close to this rather slow-moving yellowjacket and shot a few frames as he crawled his way up the post,seemingly enjoying the warmth of the painted wood. While this isn't a technically great shot, or even an aesthetically better than run-of-the-mill shot, it is included here in this gallery as sort of a little glimpse,a little split-second in time that was witnessed right here, looking out my back door.
I wish the figure-ground attachment of the yellowjacket with a swinging,black-painted iron plant support was not a problem in the shot,and I was planning to move a little bit left with the camera for my next shot,but alas, the yellowjacket flew away just a split second after this shot. I had been inching forward over about 6 frames, but apparently,I got just inside his comfort zone,so he left the area.
