DSCF1179_28-70+12mm ext.JPG

Lens test. Tokina 28-70 at 63mm setting, using Kenko 12mm Autofocusing extension tube, resized for the web. 12MP original JPEG capture ORG-ORG-OFF. Camera HH braced on countertop at ISO 100,trying for an interesting in focus/out of focus sort of way of looking at the tea's labelling information. I shot several different shots. This lens is kind of fun to use as a macro-range zoom when an extension tube is added. An even-thinner,ultra-thin extension ring would also be handy.

In keeping with the extension tube fun, I was test shooting a Tokina 28-70
f/2.6~2.8 lens I got today in the mail from a fellow forum member in a trade late this afternoon. I decided to slip on the Kenko 12mm autofocusing extension tube and see how the lens would focus at short range, like from 7-12 inches. I was playing around with the shallow depth of field using small, everyday objects. Here's one of the shots where I liked the depth of field and how it interacts with the wording on the package.

This lens is limited to about one outstretched arm's distance at its closest focusing distance....with the tube added, it can focus down to several inches.

So, while this lens is no macro-special lens, it can give kind of neat, fun effects when used with some sort of extension tube.

The 12mm is the shortest of the three-tube set sold thru many bigger dealers. I know several other Fuji Forum members have this Kenko AF set,and I know a lot of people are always asking about macro lenses and stuff. I think a lot of us would really like this new, fully-contact fitted, AF and MF preserving set of modern, autofocusing extension tubes. Why Nikon itself doesn't make a good set of modern, metrer-coupled extension tubes remains a mystery to me.

The Kenko AF set is like $95 used (what I payed) to $139 new I think it is....it's a good way to get closer focusing with any lens, and might be a fun accessory to consider instead of a new lens or one dedicated macro lens. Share it with your 24, 50,85, 35-70, whatever lenses you have.
