45 minutes after the sun had gone down behind the hill and the light had shifted to blue, at 6:03 PM,I snapped this photo of Jack, who likes to begin his hunt for moles right around dusk. He's actually scanning an area where there's just ONE mole left. He's gotten the other two. With the S2 set to 1600 ISO ORG-ORG-STD in Auto mode, I opened the lens up to 2.8 and let her rip. The time the meter picked for me? 1/10 second. Focus? On the left eye from about 6 feet away with the lens at 200mm. There's little DOF, but the eye has detail, and inside the ears there's surprisingly good shadow detail retrieval. This is awfully FLAT lighting actually, just dim, flat lighting. I am impressed with the shadow detail this lens renders. Some incandescent light from inside is lighting the background behind him,and he's front lit by open, dark slate gray skies. Cloudy WB. Good VR performance.
