Gouge

Isle of Lewis

I guess the burning of fossil fuels is a hot topic, however Island life has traditions dating back many thousands of years and there is no reason to stop now. Cutting peat is laborious and is a significantly much reduced practice in the Isles, those still willing to endure the work involved are rewarded by a delightful peat fire and the smashing associated smells. Peat fires make no odds to a world of coal hungry power stations, a billion motorized vehicles and the odd spot of fracking etc.
