Seventy five years ago today, James Isbister became the first British civilian
casualty of World War 2 when German aircraft bombed the small community of
Brig O' Waithe while attacking the naval base at Scapa Flow, Orkney.
The Isbister family are descended from my own Great Great Grandfather
William Bews who lived in that area. I still haven't established exactly
what relation James is to me but in the meantime I'm claiming him as a
distant cousin, albeit several times removed!
