This large John Ferneley painting from 1824 takes up almost
an entire wall at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
The accompanying notice explains it was accepted by HM Government
in lieu of unpaid Inheritance Tax and allocated to the Gallery in 2013.
The former owner may have lost a painting but at least he got a wall back!
