Allan Robertson was the undisputed champion golfer
of Scotland prior to his premature death in 1859.
The first 'Open Golf Championship' took place the
following year as a means of deciding his successor.
He is buried in the Cathedral grounds at St Andrews,
a few yards away from later Open Champions Tom Morris
and his son Tom Morris Jnr.
