Bob Irwin to receive $1m departure payout
The late crocodile hunter Steve Irwin's father is to receive a resignation package in excess of $1 Million following his departure from Australia Zoo.
Bob Irwin, who started the zoo over 35-years ago, announced this year that he would depart from Australia Zoo following disputes over the attraction's commercial direction.
It was today revealed that Mr Irwin will receive over $1 Million following his exit from Australia Zoo.
Mr Irwin this week told the ABC's Australian Story program that he had worked tirelessly for the zoo's benefit, in combination with his late son.
Bob Irwin also said he had no car or home, and was happy pouring his life into the conservation of animals and wildlife in Australia.
Australia Zoo today said that as part of his departure, the zoo would fund land used in Mr Irwin's new conservation project, along with a pension, a new home, two cars and a bulldozer.
Mr Irwin told the ABC this week that he would be relying on the generosity of others to help continue his son's conservation work.
Under the deal, Mr Irwin will receive a pension of about $100,000-per-year following his departure from Australia Zoo.
Asked about a reported feud with Steve Irwin's widow Terri, Bob Irwin declined to comment - saying it was his family's business.
It is believed the two, along with the zoo's board, disagreed about the increasing commercial direction of Australia Zoo - leading to Bob Irwin's resignation
