Steve Irwin's daughter unveils line of toys

Steve ''Crocodile Hunter'' Irwin's nine-year-old daughter Bindi Irwin unveiled her new line of Australia Zoo toys, featuring a doll modelled after her in New York on Monday.

Bindi has become famous in the wake of her father's death in a sting ray accident. Walking in her father's footsteps, she hosts her own television show in Australia called Bindi- the Jungle girl.

Her mother Terri told the audience at a launch event in the New York store of FAO Schwartz, of Bindi's and her four-year-old brother Robert's first snakebites.

She said the youngsters were quite proud of their unofficial badges of honour and that she had assured them that the snakes were not venomous and that she would not let them play with venomous snakes.

Bindi unveiled her new doll at FAO Schwartz after reportedly declining the offer to unveil the doll at the annual toy fair in New York because other children were not allowed to the business event.

The Bindi doll has a recording of Bindi urging people to protect wildlife. The marketing material says that proceeds from the sale of the doll will go to fund the family's conservation work.

The dolls are expected to hit the shelves at FAO Schwartz this autumn.

Bindi appears frequently on Australian and American television as a presenter and chat show guest. She also puts her name to a range of children's clothing.
