Malaysia - 49th National Merdeka

These are pictures taken during the celebration of Malaysia's 49th Merdeka (Independence) on August 31st, 2006 in Kuching, Sarawak. Events included a cultural display and raising the National Flag at Midnight on 30th August at the Kuching Waterfront followed by a colorful and exciting March Past the next morning at the Merdeka Padang (field) in the centre of the town. I really enjoyed taking part in the March and i made lots of new friends. Malaysia is a beautiful country with a diverse multicultural composition. The designs and colors from some of the outfits are stunning and the happiness and enthusiasm shown by all Malaysians from children to adults was a sight to see! These pictures were taken during the rehearsals for the Flag Raising ceremony/March past and on the actual event days.
