The “Wings over Anzio” fly-in was held on April 12, 2008 on the airport ramp of Anzio Landing, a great Italian restaurant and dinner theater, which is located at Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona.
The fly-in included WWII aircraft, military vehicles and Warbird rides. There were P-51 Mustang fighters, several North American T6 Texan trainers, a Douglas C-47, the B-25 medium bomber “Barbie III,” Boeing Stearman biplanes and more. I missed the P-51 Mustangs (SU SU and another) because I was doodling too long at Scottsdale Airport but caught most of the other Warbirds departing, one by one. Two pilots also brought their cool vintage Hudson classics. I included a few snaps of them, too.
Following is a terse candid photo essay of the departing Warbirds. The tempo was quickening (shoot only took 35 minutes) and the setting sun was harsh, so there is sun flare in a few taxiway shots. I included them to maintain the cadence of the departing planes. I hope you enjoy the gallery.
