Roy_McCaldin2.jpg
Doggie’s buddy from Tucson, Roy McCaldin, in his replica WWI 1917 de Havilland 4 on a southwest departure before turning south towards Tucson, AZ. Roy followed Doggie's departure by a few minutes.
Interestingly, Roy was a B-17 bomber pilot during WWII and was shot down by a German Messerschmitt ME 262 fighter jet over Berlin on March 18, 1945 during his 6th bombing mission. Roy and his crew of 9 others bailed out, and, luckily, all survived the war. Roy avoided capture by escaping to the Eastern Russian front. His copilot was captured by the Germans. Two members of his crew were either shot while in the air by the ME 262 or injured after bailing out.
