1945 Super Race #57 Corsair F2G-1D
Bob Odegaard’s Rolls-Royce trophy winning F2G-1D Super Corsair is a former air racer from days of the past and one of only 14 built.
In 1949, the brilliant red and white gull-wing bird, AKA Racer 57, won the prestigious Tinnerman Award and took third in the Thompson Trophy Race during the golden age of air racing.
With it’s massive 4360 ci Pratt & Whitney R-4360 28-cylinder radial engine, and sporting its “Sohio”-sponsored paint scheme, number 57 flexed its 4000-plus-horsepower muscle by qualifying in the Unlimited Class at the 2006 Reno Air Races.
Captured on November 11, 2008 in the Commemorative Air Force hanger at Falcon Field, Mesa, Arizona during the CAF's “A Gathering of Legends” Veteran's Day ceremonies. Color photos are in the gallery, “A Gathering of Legends: CAF's Veteran's Day - 11/11/08.”
