The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) AirPower History Tour visited the Phoenix, Arizona area in March 2013, and the star of the tour was, FiFi, the only actively flying B-29 Superfortress in the world.
FiFi is a B-29A Superfortress built by Boeing near the end of WWII. She is an advanced 4-engine heavy bomber for her era and one of only a few surviving Boeing B-29 Superfortress in the world. FiFi is owned by the CAF and currently is based at Addison, Texas. (FiFi – Registration N529B, Serial 44-62070 USAF)
Typical B-29 war-time crew was 11 men: pilot, co-pilot, bombardier, flight engineer, navigator, and radio operator in the fore section; radar operator, top gunner, port waist gunner, and starboard gunner in the aft section; and tail gunner in a separate tail section.
The (CAF) AirPower History Tour spent six days in the Phoenix area at two different airports. This gallery was photographed in about four hours at the Phoenix Deer Valley Airport (DVT) during the sixth day.
The AirPower History Tour included the following aircraft: B-29A Superfortress, FiFi; B-17G Flying Fortress, Sentimental Journey; and the P-51 Mustang, Man O’War. These aircraft were accompanied by a C-45 Expeditor, Bucket of Bolts; a T-6 Texan; and a PT-17 Stearman. Also on the ramp was a rare early-1940s-era 2-engine Lockheed Lodestar, Bitchin Betty.
