The Saguenay Flood of 1996
In July 1996, heavy rain pounded the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec (Canada)
for two days in a row without stopping. The result was a horrendous flood.
The flood was so powerful that it swept away a whole shopping complex.
The flood also destroyed many homes and automobiles. In 36 hours the
flood waters rose by 15 cm. The flood caused hundreds of millions of
dollars in damage. In only one day the Red Cross raised 8 million dollars
for relief. This was their largest Canadian relief fund.
This Little White House survived to the flood ....
It is now the Symbol of this date for the area of Saguenay
