Ireland

Photos are from winter trips to the north and south of Ireland. I seriously think it's impossible to take a 'bad' photo in Ireland. Gorgeous, gorgeous country. My book "Sowkins" has some stories about my time there.

Hi, Denise. I am extremely impressed by this black and white gallery of Irish images. You use black and white as it should be used -- as a medium of abstraction. By taking away the color, you strip the subject bare, and move beneath the surface. There is a rough, raw, gritty feel to them, and yes, an honest feeling as well. They are moving and beautiful. Your final touch is wonderful. The sole color shot demands color, and you use it well. The vivid color itself is the subject of that image of Christ on the building. And what an ending to this gallery, and thanks for sharing it with us.

These are great photos, the B&W format adds great power and atmosphere (must be the only Ireland gallery with no green!). Thank you too for your kind remarks, I'll be back, often!

Thank you for all the wonderful comments. Ireland is magic. This was the first time I took any photographs. I had a 35mm camera I bought at a drugstore for $20. I'd look at a cow, or cliff, or tree, gasp at it's beauty and then shoot. Denise

I love the contrast you achieved with your black and white photographs, especially the "Castle In Despair". You asked me to visit your galleries, but in actual fact I have visited them many times before, I keep coming back because I like what I see.
