Since the day I arrived I went to meet Mr. and Mrs. Walsh, and they drove me back to the hotel after dinner, I did not really see Waterford.
The tour would leave in the morning. So I skipped breakfast and went out to take a few pictures around my hotel. It was 7 AM, and I was the only soul walking.
This is the William Vincent Wallace Plaza, more often called the Millennium Plaza.
It was built along the quay by River Suir as Waterford's primary millennium landmark project in 2000, and officially opened in 2001.
Designed by city architects alongside artists Liam Lavery and Eithne Ring, the striking mast-and-cable framework mimics the sails and rigging of historic ships.
The plaza is dedicated to William Vincent Wallace (1812–1865), a virtuoso violinist, pianist, and opera composer born right nearby in Waterford.
He is regarded as one of the most prominent 19th-century composers of English opera.
