The real name of the church is Church of St. Augustine and St. John, commonly known as John's Lane Church, is a Roman Catholic church, designed by Architect Edward Welby Pugin.
Opened in 1874, the church was built in the French Gothic Revival architectural style, which was highly popular for Victorian-era ecclesiastical buildings.
The architect's father, Augustus Pugin, famously pioneered the Gothic Revival movement in the UK and Ireland.
It was built on the site where St John's Hospital used to be (1180, the first hospital in Ireland).
When the church was built, the locals called it John's Lane Church, as John's Lane West was the side street on the side of the church.
