168_The altar, St Kinga Chapel, Wieliczka Salt Mine.jpg

It is considered the largest underground chapel in the world, often referred to as an "underground cathedral".
The chapel is dedicated to St. Kinga, a 13th-century Hungarian princess and Duchess of Krakow.
According to legend, she tossed her engagement ring into a Hungarian salt mine, and it miraculously appeared in the very first block of salt mined at Wieliczka.

The altar of St. Kinga Chapel glows with a warm, sacred atmosphere deep inside the Wieliczka Salt Mine. Its carved salt walls, statues, and ornate altar give it the grandeur of an underground cathedral. The story of her ring miraculously appearing in Wieliczka’s salt adds a sense of wonder to this remarkable subterranean sanctuary...Remarkable! V
