I was taking photos in Petra, Jordan, when I heard a child's voice: "One dollar, one dollar."
I spotted him: a barefoot boy, covered with dust. I noticed that there seemed to be something wrong with his left eye.
He pointed to the stones resting on a piece of wood, indicating that they cost one dollar each.
I took a picture of him, gave him a few dollars, signaled that I had no room in my pockets for the stones.
I wanted to tell him to go home, for no one would buy those stones, but we couldn't communicate.
I sighed, and left.
