Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) was the capital of South Vietnam until 1975.
Vietnam was under French colonial rule from approximately 1858 to 1954.
The Ho Chi Minh City General Post Office is a premier example of French colonial architecture, constructed between 1886 and 1891.
